I can't believe how much I got done today!!! It's 5:42pm and I've just come back from the gym, feeling great and wondering if I should give it a rest for the rest of the day, or if I should do a litle more work and then call it a day...

Anais gave me "I love you Paris" for xmas and I'm gonna make myself a vodka and moutaindew (you do with what you've got!) and watch the movie wee! hehe.. I could go for some chips but I've gotta chill!!!! I'm trying to get fit for my beach trip!! ;)

I need suggestions of recipes that have minimal ingredients (CHEAP to make).

SWEETS preferably, but if you have the odd healthy and yummy treat recipe too that'd be great)

I've decided to start doing weekly bake sales at work and in front of my apartment building to fundraise for School. I know it's silly, but I love baking, it's a stress reliever, and if I can even save up for travel/move costs, that would be worth while.

any ideas?

I'm coming home in 5 days. It's been that long, or short already. kind of weird. I've seen so many things inside these few countries. So many people have passed by me. So many directions I've received. So many toilets I've flushed that had two flushing options. So many Dublin taxi drivers or sign holders winking at me as I don't avert my eyes. so many croissants later.

I'm in Berlin now, in the biggest city so far. Well, kind of. I think it's bigger than London non? london has more people though. Berlin is the grittiness I've never seen in any other city. Big rocks layed on the sidewalks, graffitti EVERYWHERE. You really have to look in the windows to see what's inside. Fancy restaurant of not. I've been staying on the boat hostel which has been enjoyable. I'm getting lonely at this point, so It's a little tough to make "fun" of staying in my room alone cause I don't have any cash really to work with anymore, mainly credit. And NO ONE takes credit in Germany. Totally overestimated the power of a credit card during this trip. For real. In the UK it was all "we only do the chip in card ones" "visa? no.", and now it's "only Maestro cards, no credit cards".I kind of want to keep the cash I've got left for cash emergencies like 4 pound bus tickets, etc...

The boat had a latin party last night. hehe. I wished there were more people there though, I really felt like dancing, but the three people on the floor weren't a good dancing group. So I had a massive Shana-glass of wine and these two older gentlemen next to me started chattin' me up. It was great, we talked all about our heritage, what berlin is like, it turns out that they were living here (for the last 20 years) when the wall came down. So it was a great convo to have the real story, from the "real" peeps.

anyhoo. I need a coffee, been shopping like crazy today (nothing too grand yet though... ) I bought another pair of shoes my first day here, and Tatjana gave me two pairs she didn't want anymore!!! So I'm coming back home with 5 pairs of shoes. Insanely awesome when traveling to have the option of changing shoes throughout the week!

cologne update

cologne rocks my world..

I took today to relax at my hostel in the early morning then go out and shop, look around, visit the cathedral of the freaking world, seriously, the bigest and most beautiful!

I then walked in the sun with a million people, bought boots that cost more than half my rent, and tonight Iäm having a lovely diner with Tatjana.

cologne has a totally diferent feal than the other countries. Itäs relaxing.

calling on all citizens to create 5 minutes of electrical rest for the

People all over the world should turn off their lights and electrical
appliances on the first of February 2007, between 1.55 pm and 2.00 pm in
New York, 18.55 for London, and 19.55 for Paris, Bruxelles, and Italy.
1.55pm in Ottawa, 10.55am on the Pacific Coast of North America.

This is not just about saving 5 minutes worth of electricity; this is
about getting the attention of the media, politicians, and ourselves.
Five minutes of electrical down time for the planet: this does not take
long, and costs nothing, and will show all political leaders that global
warming is an issue that needs to come first and foremost in political
debate.

Why February 1? This is the day when the new UN report on global climate
change will come out in Paris.

This event affects us all, involves us all, and provides an occasion to
show how important an issue global warming is to us. If we all
participate, this action can have real media and political weight.

Please circulate this call to your utmost ability to your network.

It's time to get serious today. I've got to writ out this grant application. I;m thinking it's possible. I'm commited to sitting at this cafe and finishing my grant app draft by the end of the day. no distractions (except for MSN, email checking, blogging, the music I'm listening to, thinking about the coffee date I have with Sarah later today, and general issues like how I'll go pee and not wanting to leave my computer on the coffee table, and getting hungry....)..... oh boy. haha, funny how I always concentrate the best in situations like this one. weird. Maybe that's how ADD works. Just the right amount of distractions...

my neck and shoulders are in such pain my headache has been constant for a week. I need an emergency massage I think. my futon and pillow are officially dead. whether I can do something about that or not... is up in the air. I need someonet o sponteneously call me and be like "hey, you want this comfortable bed for free?". that'd be nice. I'll invest in Ibuprofene for now... aouch...

Anyone know of any physio-type exercise I can do to get rid of knots in my neck and shoulders? I've tried basic yoga and ... neck rolls, and tried massaging myself, but it didn't do anything...

Kootenay School of Writing - Call for Submissions
W13: The Paraliterary Issue
"Interesting, but it's not literature."
The Kootenay School of Writing is seeking submissions for the 13th issue of
W magazine, to focus on "paraliterary" or nonliterary writing projects.

The thesis driving W13 is that as the parameters of poetic practice/praxis
are reshaped in coming decades, more and more writing that now seems
unclassifiable, except as "interesting, but not literature", will become
imaginable within expanded, and culturally more pertinent, definitions of
poetry.

Below is a brainstormed list of paraliterary possibilities, by no means
exhaustive. Note that for the purposes of W13 it doesn't matter if the texts
are legit or faked, fact or fiction, personal or impersonal, creative or
uncreative.

1. informational texts (surveys; polls; maps; statistical charts;
chronologies; diagrams;
2. conspiracy theories; research results)
3. notational projects (diaries; ongoing notes; classroom notes; records;
lists; inventories;
4. specialised glossaries and lexicons)
5. annotational projects (annotations of other texts)
6. pseudo theory; pseudo poetics, pseudo philosophy; pseudo theology; pseudo
manifestos; pseudo research
7. amateur science and pseudo sciences (investigations into: linguistics;
etymology; astrology; astronomy; biology; 'pataphysics or "pataphysics)
8. occult writings (automatic writing; ouija board transcriptions;
transcriptions of divinations; predictions; tarot readings of persons or
texts)
9. found texts and found text-objects (scans or transcripts of interesting
documents; posters; ephemera; ads; letters; notes; signs; report cards)
10. collections of texts (blurbs; phone messages; subject lines; typos in
famous works)
11. interviews from interesting social contexts (faked or real; raw
transcriptions of speech)

If you're still unsure whether what you have in mind or on hand is right for
the issue, direct queries to paratext@kswnet.org. We can point you to
examples of interesting paraliterary works and writers, or talk to you about
specific projects and ideas.

In the meantime, the easiest ways to look into the paraliterary might be to
pick up a copy of McCaffery and Rasula's anthology Imagining Language, or to
check out the Conceptual Writing and the Outsiders sections of UbuWeb. You
might also give a thought to the forthcoming anthology Against Expression
(Craig Dworkin and Kenneth Goldsmith, eds.) that will feature a historical
range of so-called "uncreative" writings, or look at some of the
transdisciplinary writings published in the Western Front's FRONT magazine,
some of the work in DELUXE RUBBER CHICKEN, and in the better indie zines and
micro-magazines. You could also look at the found texts in FOUND magazine,
or read up on text-based projects by visual artists.

We're looking for new works/texts, but will gladly consider
previously-published material, depending on when, where and how it was
published. It can be helpful if the work is accompanied by a brief statement
of method, means or intent.

W13 pays: $25 CAD per published page, to a maximum of $75 CAD. (And yes,
you'll be paid for found texts/text-objects.)

W is published in pdf only, long works are therefore acceptable. There is no
particular page-count or word-count requirement or limit, but the budget for
W13 is not unlimited. Remember that pdf can accommodate full-colour images,
embedded audio files, and weblinks.

Publishing in W means that your work will remain virtually "in print" much
longer than in a paper magazine, and will be accessible to a more
geographically dispersed audience. Almost every issue of W, including back
issues, is downloaded from the KSW website dozens of times per month.

Dear friends and colleagues,

Recently the conservative government allowed a one-time increase to the Canada Council for the Arts. $50 million over the next two years ($20M 2006-2007, and $30M 2007-2008). 2/3 of the funding will go toward Operating Organizations (not new Organizations unfortunately), 1/6 to individual artists, and the last 1/6 towards Access (touring, presentation, etc).

What this means is that in the next two years there will be more funding for individual artists to apply for individual grants. This 1/6 given to individual artists grants translates to approx $7.6 Million in additional funds which will be directly placed into individual grants. This means more artists will be receiving funds (one-time funding only, not permanent). Which means that individuals who applied for funds in the Oct. 1st/06 deadline will have more chances for successful grants, and in the event your project was refused, it may have better chances in the upcoming March 1st deadline. In either case, I'm alerting everyone I know who deserves a grant to APPLY for the upcoming deadlines, $7.6 Million additional dollars is nothing to sniff at, and is certainly worth your time and energy. Please pass this information along with the link below for more detailed information from the source itself. Or feel free to email me to ask about additional resources.

In addition: the more we apply for grants, the more the government will see the need for increased funding. hurrah! We Atlantic Artists need to pay special attention as our overall Canada Council funding has decreased by %25 in the last years compared to the rest of the country. No where near enough Atlantic Artists are applying for Canada Council funding, and because of this, we are receiving less and less chances for funding in the Atlantic.

don't know if I didn't sleep last night or what... but I could really just fall asleep on my desk...

don't know why my mother decided to visit this week. it's possibly the worst/busiest time to visit me right now. I have two-three meetings a day and lots of personal research to do...

How am I going to apply to schools...? no money or thoughts on why I want to attend the schools I've chosen. hmmm. sign?

I ate lots of good food this weekend. including home-made smores made by Emilie and myself in the oven. oh yeah. that was glorious.

I have no lunch today... hmmm.. smores. where are you when I need you.

Bitter coffee should be shot in the head.

SO. I went to the gym last night and it was a nice workout. I sometimes fear that my body will cave in on itself if I miss like a week of gym, which I did . (except it was two weeks).
But I pulled a muscle which sucks. My head is having problems moving up and down...Maybe it was the fact that I started watching "walk the line " at 11pm (man that movie is long! but good.) and watched with my chin touching my chest the whole time, while laying down on my back with a tiny pillow supporting my head. hmmm, I think it was watching the movie because I have trouble bringing my head back. aouch.

so much to know in this world, sometimes I can't get to sleep because I feel I haven't learned enough in my day. So that's when I watch movies until 2am to make me feel better.

A couple of posts ago I copied the press release for the event I'm coordinating for my work. It's our official annual Masquerade Fundraiser. We are all very excited about it, and many people should be having a blast:) I hope that if you're in town, you'll attend too:)

I'm posting today to ask if anyone would like to sponsor our Centre by purchasing a Ticket ($12/$10 for students) in exchange for supporting our lovely artist-run centre. I know most of you are unable to attend our event, and sometimes it's just nice to be able to support a cause. I know in this world of important women, youth, health care and poverty issues, it's hard to see how Arts and Culture can really be a priority cause to support. There are over 200 Canadian Centres/festivals/Collectives across the nation,( that's only Media Arts and doesn't include visual arts, arts publications or theatre and music centres) which employ between 4 and 6 employees each, not to mention all the contract workers, curators, and thousands of artists who wouldn't be able to produce and support themselves without them. Most of these centres compete for the same funding sources, yet support one another in creatively keeping afloat. One of the ways in which we all manage to keep people employed, is by making sure our small fundraising quota makes a big diference.

Media Masquerade Fundraiser

One night a year we have the opportunity to shapeshift into a desired alter ego and celebrate Halloween until the wee hours of morn. This year’s Media Masquerade is hosted at Fred’s at 2606 Agricola, and will begin with the performative art of Lisa Lipton. She will set the mood with a performance, dancing her Eldritch Waltz. The artist, masked and in full costume, incorporating haunting music and a looming projected piece will kick off the evening at 9pm with an atmosphere of Masquerade. Moving ahead, the Centre for Art Tapes will debut their brand-new website and curatorial initiative Digital Mirror, as well as launch the Rita McKeough Retrospective DVD, and wow the masquerade-goers with a Surprize RAFFLE prize. Many are already excited to hear that live band entertainment will be provided by local band CityField, who will creep their musical spell over the crowd in fancy get-ups from 10pm to midnight, when the awesome DJ vibes will take over and bring us into sunrise. The night will be one of mystery, disguise, dancing, a costume contest and drinks for all to enjoy!
